Mike Simonson is a young, energetic coach currently serving as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Seattle Pacific University. Before becoming Head Coach at Seattle Pacific in the fall of 2018, Mike had spent the previous 2 years as SPU’s lead assistant. Prior to his time at SPU, he spent nine years at WSU, both as a student manager & full-time staff member. Having worked with three distinct coaches (Tony Bennett, Ken Bone and Ernie Kent) he has learned many skills and developed a diverse perspective of the game of basketball.
VISION
Every coach should have vision of where they want their team and self to be. This vision should always be relentlessly pursued.
My vision is to be a SUCCESSFUL Head Coach by building a consistently successful style of play.
NICHE
How will you get to your vision and what will set you apart? Every coach needs a niche.
My niche is to be known as a STUDENT OF THE GAME, use innovative techniques and be a tremendous X's & O's coach.
PHILOSOPHY
Just like an artist developing his craft, a coach needs to develop a philosophy that fits their niche and morphs throughout their career.
I have been blessed to work for some incredible coaches who have instilled many principles in me. As I continue to grow, there are a few things that will stick with me:
1. Build your defense from the ground up (Tony Bennett)
2. Adjust your offense to fit your personnel (Ken Bone)
3. Success on the court won't happen without success OFF THE COURT (Ernie Kent)
